One of the league’s premier young defenders just cashed in. Defensive tackle Jalen Carter and the Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to a four-year extension worth $152 million, with the potential to reach $160 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The deal includes $106 million in guaranteed money and makes Carter the highest-paid defensive tackle in NFL history.
Carter, whose fifth-year option was picked up earlier this offseason, is now locked into Philadelphia through the 2031 season. The 2023 first-round pick has been a cornerstone of the Eagles’ defensive front since arriving as the ninth overall selection out of Georgia.
His impact was felt immediately, culminating in a dominant performance during the Eagles’ run to a Super Bowl LIX victory to close out the 2024 campaign. In three seasons, Carter has racked up 13.5 sacks, 25 tackles for loss, and 37 quarterback hits across 43 games while drawing 27 starts.
A two-time Pro Bowler, Carter has also shown his versatility with 13 passes defensed and four forced fumbles during his young career. The Eagles clearly view him as a generational talent along their defensive line, and this historic contract reflects that belief as they aim to keep their championship window wide open for years to come.
